Workout buffs of the DMV rejoice! All that Capital Bikeshare riding and Potomac paddle boarding is paying off.

Arlington, Virginia, has been named the fittest city in the country by the American Fitness Index, an initiative of the American College of Sports Medicine. The 2018 report was released on Tuesday.

The city scored a 77.7 on the index, which "ranks a variety of criteria from health behaviors, chronic diseases to community infrastructure of the 100 largest cities." Closely behind is Minneapolis, with a score of 77.2, and Washington, D.C. with a 74. Rounding out the top five are Madison, Wisconsin, and Portland, Oregon.

These health behaviors include meeting aerobic activity guidelines, getting at least seven hours of sleep a night, eating two or more fruits a day, not smoking and more. The index also looked at rates of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and other conditions.

The number of farmers' markets, parks, baseball fields, swimming pools, tennis courts and more also played a role in the scoring.

Pat yourself on the backs, fitness fiends!
