Frederick County School District Employee Fired Over Tweet

Katie Nash, a web coordinator for the school system in Frederick County, Maryland, was let go from her job on Friday, presumably after a making what she thought was a lighthearted joke on Twitter.

On January 5, a student named Nathan tweeted at the Frederick County school district asking them to cancel school “tamarrow.”

Ms. Nash responded to the tweet and said, “but then how would you learn how to spell “tomorrow”? 🙂

According to the Associated Press, Nash said she was then asked not to use the school district’s Twitter anymore.

According to Cheryl Conner from ABC7 who spoke to Nash yesterday, she received a letter on Friday letting her know that she was being terminated. They did not offer an explanation, and so far the school district has not commented on the situation.
