Lately, Nationals star Max Scherzer has been using his pitching arm for something other than throwing strikes.

The pitcher and his wife Erica work with the Polaris Project, and those who donate to the anti-human trafficking organization receive baseball memorabilia autographed by Scherzer himself.

Kelly was invited to hang out the couple as the Nats player signed everything from bobble heads to baseball cards.

Hear Kelly’s interview with Scherzer below.

Scherzer had a record 20 strikeouts on May 11, leading the Nationals to a 3-2 victory against his former team, the Detroit Tigers.

Scherzer joined Kerry Wood, Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens as the only pitchers with 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game.

The pitcher’s wife Erica called into The Tommy Show on May 23 to describe the excitement of that game.

She also talked about a new way that Nats fans can become involved with the Polaris Project, an anti-human trafficking organization in D.C., that she and her husband support. Fans can send in items for the pitcher to sign in exchange for a donation to the Polaris Project, and in the Scherzers will match every donation.

The couple is also encouraging Nats fans to make a donation to Polaris for every strikeout the pitcher throws during the 2016 MLB season. Fans who pledge have the chance to win a signed baseball or tickets to a Nationals home game. The Scherzer’s are matching every gift up to $25,000, doubling the effort to help end modern slavery.

Polaris will use the money to help fund the National Human Trafficking Hotline, which offers a safe space to report tips, seek services, and ask for help.
