A small, private jet slammed into a Gaithersburg neighborhood Monday morning, killing a woman and her young sons inside a home, along with three people on the plane.

Marie Gemmell, her son Cole, and infant son, Devin, were in the home and lost their lives during the accident. They are survived by Ken Gemmell and their oldest child, Arabelle.

Jenifer Miller, a Silver Spring resident and mother of five, felt inspired to do what she could to aid the Gemmell family. Miller started a GoFundMe page, hoping to get a few Shares and Likes on Facebook and to raise a few hundred dollars.

Nearly 24 hours after creating the page, the community has raised nearly $355,000.

“It is the least that I can do, not even as a mother, but as a person who feels this extreme pain of what this family must be going through,” Miller tells 94.7 Fresh FM. “I set up the Go Fund Me, not really even thinking it would reach that much … Just hoping it would get shared a few times on Facebook.”

She says her heart goes out to Ken Gemmell.

“Not only did he lose most of his family, his home, but he also lost all physical memories of all people he lost in the accident.”
