Viral Video: OK Go’s ‘The Writing’s on the Wall’

Known for their meticulously engineered music videos, OK Go is back with another video that makes you wonder “how did they do that?”

The entire video was shot in one take and stays true to the band’s homage of interesting, viral, aww-worthy videos.  This time, they focus on depth perception and optical illusions for “The Writing’s On The Wall.”

The foursome have been devising music videos of this nature since their treadmill-filled debut in “Here It Goes Again” in 2006.

“We don’t view [music videos] as promotional materials for the ‘real’ thing, the song,” OK Go frontman Damian Kulash told TIME. “To us the song is the real thing when you’re listening to the song and the music video is the real thing when you’re watching the music video.”

It reportedly took 50 takes to perfect the one-take video.  The hardest scene, according to the director, was drummer Dan Konopka’s pink paint illusion.  Every take had to be reset, cleaned up and repainted every time.
