What Patriotism Means to Me on this Veterans Day

I wanted to find the best way to honor our veterans on Veterans Day.

What better way than to express my love of the U.S. and my patriotism with a story I’m proud to tell:

A couple weeks ago, I took a weekend trip to New York City and was reminded of my grandfather’s journey to this country.

On his way to Honduras in Central America, the boat stopped in New York City.

He was able to walk around and was fascinated by stores that were selling radios and record players.

Although my grandfather wasn’t an on-air talent like myself, he was drawn to the scientific aspect of broadcasting.

After his brief stopover in New York City, he was determined to save money to move and become a citizen of the United States.

He wanted to live out his dream to work with electronics and in broadcast engineering, as well as raise his daughter (my mother) in the U.S.

He did.

To me, that’s the kind of story that makes me very proud to be an American and thankful for the sacrifices made by veterans.

Our veterans paved the way for our families to enjoy the freedom and opportunities that make this country so beautiful.

Thank you!
